MBBR technology uses a combination of suspended and fixed growth principles with system aeration, aiming to degrade organic matter and remove organic and inorganic pollutants from the effluent to be treated.
Its principle is based on the use of media (small plastic elements) that have a large surface area and are suspended inside the reactor, promoting aeration and mixing and ensuring suitable conditions for the growth of microorganisms, which attach themselves to its surface and form the biofilm.
Used in a wide range of applications, due to its advantages such as:
- Effective in removing organic pollutants such as nitrogen;
- High organic matter removal efficiency;
- Supports high loads;
- compact WWTPs;
- Ease of operation.
